Our Story & Purpose

About Us

Unchecked digital power and state repression threaten civic space… we exist to demand accountability.

Origins & Purpose

Founded out of the Internet Society Youth Ambassador's Fellowship

Internet for Rights exists to defend digital democracy, protect online freedoms, and advance inclusive digital development. Working at the intersection of democracy, technology, and human rights, we treat the internet not as a luxury, but as critical public infrastructure for human dignity, safety, and civic participation.

As digital repression, network disruptions, and algorithmic harms grow across the Global South, we bridge technical internet governance with community defense: combining research, strategic & creative advocacy, grassroots capacity building, and open-source civic tech tools across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Values That Guide Our Posture

1

Uncompromising Independence

We maintain complete editorial and operational freedom. We accept no funding or conditions that compromise our ability to hold governments or Big Tech accountable.

2

Frontline Solidarity

We work side-by-side with local journalists, student activists, and public defenders facing actual arrest, censorship, or device seizures.

3

African Realities First

We reject copy-paste solutions from Silicon Valley or Europe. Our solutions are designed for local network conditions, local laws, and everyday realities.
